Motorcycle Armour Clothing

In the world of sports, one of the most exciting activities is racing. There are different types of racing events which involves cars, bikes and other vehicles. Amongst them, the motorcycle race which is also one of the most dangerous sports. To protect these sportsmen, the motorcycle armour clothing was born.

Motorcycle Armour Clothing: All round protection

These armours provide individual protection to each and every part of the body. The basic set offers protection to the shoulder and elbow as these parts when injured take longer periods of time to heal. The lower body protectors, cover the hip and the knee caps. The aim of protecting all the body parts instead of concentrating on an individual organ is that, the speed at which a person travels cannot be determined. At the same time, the physical constraints that each of them face will differ. Hence the injury sustained may not be at a particular location. Rather, there will be all round damage to the body. Thus motorcycle armour clothing provides a wholesome protection.

Types of Motorcycle Armour Clothing:

Based on the thickness of the armour, the motorcycle armour clothing is segregated into different groups:

  • Foam armour: This type of armour has a very thin layer of foam which can be found on our door mattresses.  It hardly provides any protection and hence it is avoided by most consumers.
  • Memory foam: The amount of foam utilised in manufacturing this armour is very high and hence it becomes dense. It offers very high levels of protection by absorbing a large amount of the force during impact.
  • Hard armour: A hard plastic is used to back up the foam that is used in its manufacturing. However, this armour is not preferred since it is prone to wear and tear during an accident.
  • Strain rate sensitive armour: This is the best armour that has been manufactured yet. It utilises highly viscoelastic material, which on impact, alters itself at an atomic level and provides very high levels of protection. Besides its protective strength, this armour is quite soft and flexible.

Standards of Motorcycle Armour Clothing:

The motorcycle armour clothing is not only restricted to racers but it can also be availed by the commuters on the road. In Europe, each of the armour needs to go through 2 testing processes which assess the standard of the manufactured vest. The performance is determined by measuring the force that is transmitted through the armour on to the body when it is in contact with a mass that is travelling at a high speed. These standards test the authenticity of the devices which are manufactured to protect the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and lower regions of the leg. Besides the protection of the front portion of the body, there are gadgets which protect the back as well.

They are also used by car racers to avoid any injuries they may sustain in case of any mishap. Thus these vests help all the drivers protect themselves from most accidents.
